Turkey Vulture

Cathartes aura

Description:

huge black bird that loves to glide in the wind searching for prey on the ground

Habitat:

trees

Notes:

These sneaky birds of prey like to fly high up in the air and search for food like rats and other small creatures lurking on the ground. Sometimes the vulture does not even have to try the use his/her wings because the winds are so strong that the bird just floats.

Not a Black Vulture. They have a distinctive wing shape with the primaries pushed forward above and protruding below. Also, their tails are almost triangular, not rectangular like this bird's. I would put my money on Turkey Vulture (Cathartes aura).

Did you get a good look at it's head ? It could also be a Turkey Vulture if it's head is bald and red.
