Asclepias incarnata
The milkweed is the most fascinating plant to study. It is used for food (catching other insets and eating leaves and gathering pollen), making homes, hiding, sleeping, and gathering water. In my morning stop at a bed of milkweed I counted 20 insects, plus snails and caterpillars. Of course we all know the butterflies are attracted to the spring flowers like the Monarch.
uncut fields, roadsides, swamps.
I would choose the Milkweed over all plants if I had to make that choice.
