Pacific Blue Mussel

Mytilus trossulus

Description:

Purple-blue mussels found on virtually every beach on Kodiak and surrounding islands

Habitat:

Most of the shoreline of this island was covered in these mussels. The island is not connected to Kodiak and that seems that the lack of human disturbance has allowed the mussels to flourish even more than on other Kodiak beaches where they are already quite common.
