sea anemones

Description:

anemones in tidal pool

Habitat:

Pacific Northwest coast; tidal zone

Notes:

spotted at low tide on Rialto Beach at the base of a narrow perforated ridge (which will shortly--in geologic time--become a seastack); the perforation is called "Hole-in-the-Wall"; possibly giant green anemones, Anthopleura xanthogrammica; those in this spotting measure less than the 7 inches I've found cited as the smaller end of the size range; however, they could be juveniles or adults which did not reach "normal" size because of the (small) size of their habitat
