A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Hypochaeris radicata
Found just off flinders beach.
Thanks martin. That was a bit slap-dash of me to not check it fully. I wonder who seconded my suggestion !!??
Mocroseris has only six hits on google, each refer to willie wonkas flicker image. I don't think this is a true genus for such a common worldwide weed. Often mistaken for the dandelion, flatweeds have several differences outlined in this blog http://bushcapital.org.au/forum/index.ph...
Thanks guys, if only I'd gotten a better shot from above. Identification wasn't the intention at the time of taking the photo.
The genus Hieracium contains a large number species, very variable in appearance. Here it was mainly the color, shape of the flower and the lashed tip of the petals that made me think of hawkweed.
The flowers on the hawkweed ceratinly look similar but maybe a little more feeble... interesting comparison though.
Nups, this one looks a lot like hawkweed, have a look.
