Stanhopea costaricensis

Description:

Plant blooms during spring and summer with 3 to 7 flowers per an inflorescence. Flowers are fragrant and 10 to 12 cm wide.

Habitat:

The plant is found on lower branches of trees in evergreen cloud forest of Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama at elevations of 700 to 1400 meters.

Hi Craig! I've just seen your comment! I'm pretty sure that is S. costaricensis, but I don't remember the scent...I need to come back to Costa Rica to smell it! haha

Wow! You're so lucky to see a Stanhopea flowering in the wild! The flowers usually only last a few days! This one looks like Stanhopea costaricensis but I'm not certain of the ID. Did the flowers have a scent of Vanilla?
