3 toed sloth

Bradypus variegatus

Description:

medium sized slow moving arboreal mammal that only comes out of the trees to defecate. Male has patch between the shoulder blades

Habitat:

roadside stand of trees

Notes:

Our driver saw him and stopped in the middle of the highway. This one appeared to be on it's way down. We discovered that smallish termite nests look superficially like sloths resting in the branches. We saw several of them. Both two and three toed
