Cotton harlequin bug / Shield bug

Tectocoris diophthalmus

Description:

Cotton Harlequin / Shield bugs. Both approximately 10mm in length.

Habitat:

Coastal mangrove.

Notes:

Both bugs found in close proximity to each other. Male and female of same species. Colorful one is a late instar nymph and the orange plain one is a female adult.

This is wonderful spotting and good learning lesson.. How colour changes in Juvenile(Nymph) to Adult stages in Insects from Pentatomoidea family.

According to this link the colorful one is a late instar nymph and the orange plain one is a female adult. These are jewel bugs, the most colorful of the true bugs.
