Fungus-eating Ladybird

Illeis galbula

Description:

a small ladybird about 3-4mm long. It had bright yellow and black alternating stripes.

Habitat:

gardens, open forests

Notes:

It is described as shiny black with yellow dots but I found the colours alternating in bands. Found this little guy in an overgrown neglected plot.

When I was growing up in India, I used to sit up on the roof until midnight to see a palm civet creep across our neighbour's roof. Somehow, there was always moonlight and I only got to see his silhouette -was magical. Then they came and built massive buildings and all was lost...I know that there are a lot of dedicated individuals in India working hard for the environment and ultimately, for the good of mankind but, unfortunately you can't see much wildlife in your back yard as you can do here in Oz.
I should stop now - maybe more appropriate for the chat line... It's good you like my little ladybird - thanks.

True, there are many people in India, that just means you have to work a little harder to see wildlife. I could imagine living there and traveling around you could possibly see a ton of wildlife. I spent only 4 months in India traveling from national park to national park and saw a lot of wildlife.

Sometimes migration is based on one particular specimen of quality wildlife :-)

dandoucette, Yes, india has plenty of life -they're called "human beings" - can't see anything else !!! - just joking. From pictures that some of the guys from India are putting -up I am amazed and somewhat saddened at what I've missed.
Australia, has strange creatures- the birds here make strange sounds. I don't think I'll apply the words "dainty, melodious or colourful" to many creatures here but, some how they've fascinated me since I was very little.
Project Noah is really great - now I want to live everywhere !!!

Are you saying India does not have the same quality of animals that Australia has? What passes for quality wildlife, just curious?

maybe it's quality not quantity :)

Cool ladybird! Just reading your bio. Moved to Australia for wildlife and natural history? India didn't have enough for you?!
