Agelaius phoeniceus
Red-winged Blackbirds are one of the most common birds across North America. Males are glossy-black with a red and yellow patch on their shoulders. When a male Red-winged blackbird feels confident, his colored patch will puff up, when the male is frightened, his patch will hide itself.
Red-winged blackbirds spend their mating season in fresh or saltwater marshes. They often nest in forested areas along waterways.
