Ruellia brittoniana
The wild form of Mexican petunia is ornamentally inferior to the cultivated forms and is rarely offered for sale. Currently, there are eight known cultivars that have been selected commercially for pink, purple, or white flowers as well as tall and dwarf forms. Common names:Desert Petunia, Florida Bluebells, Mexican Petunia, Mexican Blue Bells. Native to: Southern U.S., Mexico. Zones: 8-11. Height: 12 - 24 inches. Width: 12 -18 inches. Attracts: Bees, butterflies.
Light: Full Sun. Water: Average. May be invasive. Natural habitat: Wet, disturbed sites including drainage ditches, shores of ponds or lakes, and moist to wet wooded areas. Host plant to the Common Buckeye (Junonia coenia) & Tropical Buckeye (Junonia evarete).
