Anoplognathus pallidicollis
Body length 25mm; golden wing cases with fine black striations; golden pronotum and head both with nacre sheen (green, pink); (this one has been in the wars; one wing case partly broken; 4 legs with parts missing)
Tall eucalyptus forest; this one hanging onto a barbed wire fence with his only good hook.
In pic#2 it fell off the fence while I was snapping it. Landing on its back was lucky as I got a ventral view. Damage probably done by a bird.

I think the genus Anoplognathus is the correct fit for the (Australian) christmas beetle. Your little battler may be Anoplognathus pallidicollis. This site is offered to show there are 35 species in the genus and the image shown here is incorrect... http://yourdemocracy.net.au/drupal/node/...
