Spider

Description:

This is not a good picture of a spider but his web is amazing. He was easily 1-1.5 inches long.

Habitat:

My front porch

Notes:

This big boy took over half of our front porch, for half the summer. His web was amazing not only was it along the front of the porch but across it also =] He stayed on his side, we stayed on ours.

No :( I could not get my flash adjusted right so he wasn't a glowing object. And at the time I was trying for the web.

The orb weavers are a difficult bunch to ID. I have very few arachnid references at home and the Web is full of info to be sorted. Do you happen to have any close-ups of the dorsal side?

Hmmmm, so which orb spider has the same markings as a wolf spider and gets that huge? I will try to look it up. Makes sense cause I didn't think wolf spiders made webs, but he was too pretty for me to think too hard about it ;)

This is actually a species of orb weaving spider ( http://bugguide.net/node/view/1972 ). Wolf spiders do not make webs. They got the name "wolf" because they run down their prey. :-)
