I believe you are correct Liam, I didn't consider the distribution angle, I was just so pleased to recognise a familiar looking bird, they are very similar in appearance I think

Burhinus vermiculatus is out of range. The only species of Thick-knee found in Israel is the Eurasian Stone-curlew.

The general stance and colouring remind me of the Water Dikkop ( or Water Thick-knees as our local ornithological authorities have decreed we must call it these days ;-(
I'm assuming there is water nearby, and this bird is nocturnal bird, hunting after dark.
