Puncturevine

Tribulus terrestris

Habitat:

Backyard

Notes:

This is a common weed here. This one is blooming. When the "fruit" forms, it becomes a hard, spiny little ball. I had the misfortune of stepping barefoot into a big patch of these at night while chasing an owl. Ouch.
