Inky Cap

Coprinus atramentarius

Description:

Cap is conical to bell-shaped, light brown to gray (inky with age); gills white, gray then black. Stem white. Flattened collar. I pulled a tiny piece of rope of these to get a better picture and when I went back in the house my hands were stained black like ink.

Habitat:

on decaying logs, stumps, buried wood.
