Sharon, these hawks are migrating south right now. It would be quite reasonable to see one (usually many) of these moving through Ohio at the end of September.
Thanks Doren, I'll try and get a better photo if I get a chance. Interesting to find in ohio this time of year?
Hard to tell from this image, but it may be a Broad-winged Hawk, Buteo platypterus.
