Araneidae (ah-RAIN-KNEE-id-dee)
The shape of the abdomen differs a lot between species. It can be spiny, sometimes smooth, other times in a irregular in shape. Nocturnal orb-weavers are usually brown or gray. Diurnal species are more brightly colored and may be black and yellow or orange. Often females are bigger than males. Some bigger Orb-weavers eat hummingbirds, others will eat small bugs from their web. This is called Prey and Predator
They prefer humid areas more than dryer. Adult Orb-weavers can't usually survive below-freezing weather, so they don't live for more than a year. In tropical regions with warm winters, they may live longer.
They usually have a big abdomen, and it almost always overlaps the back of the back edge of the cephalothorax.
