Common Garter Snake

Description:

This snake was probably around 13 inches long and very narrow. The pattern isn't very clear in the photos but the snake is an olive-ish brown/green colour with a weird almost checker-ish pattern on its back.

Habitat:

I found this snake on an abandoned tennis court about 50 meters from a lakeshore on very sandy soil. There weren't many trees and nothing over shrub height growing. It was slithering towards the sail storage.
