Artocarpus altilis
This tree foxed me. It is medium sized with very large leaves that have deeply serrated edges. The flower reminds me of a Cycas cone. The fruit looks like a tiny baby jackfruit.
Port Blair island. Right next to my hotel there.Took this from the window.
Wikipedia says, ".... texture of the cooked moderately ripe fruit, which has a potato-like flavor, similar to freshly baked bread."
Deepti S....I had NEVER seen this tree before. But now that I have I saw one in my residential colony ....complete with fruit...Today!
I have come across this tree in Goa and Karnataka and the local recipes of the moderately ripe breadfruit tastes awesome.
Thank you, Deepti S. I had read about the breadfruit tree but not seen one before. Thanks so much.
