Breadfruit Tree

Artocarpus altilis

Description:

This tree foxed me. It is medium sized with very large leaves that have deeply serrated edges. The flower reminds me of a Cycas cone. The fruit looks like a tiny baby jackfruit.

Habitat:

Port Blair island. Right next to my hotel there.Took this from the window.

Notes:

Wikipedia says, ".... texture of the cooked moderately ripe fruit, which has a potato-like flavor, similar to freshly baked bread."

I have come across this tree in Goa and Karnataka and the local recipes of the moderately ripe breadfruit tastes awesome.
