In ^the full size version, it looks like there's something wrong with his bill. House Finches are very susceptible to diseases and tumors.
Nice photo Emma. It looks like your finch has a growth above its bill, making those few red feathers stick out. Is that what you saw?
Not enough gray in the face, nor is demarcated for Purple Finch. Typical male House Finch in transition plumage.
it's good news, normaly people by to construct or make tourism business's,lets se if man kind is suficient inteligent to preserv these pearls,i'am not very confident of that, the gread is to big, nobody want to give up of what they have, every body want more, new cars, new closes, new tv sets,it's a terrible cross road the one human kind is today,i hope things like noah, national geographic, green peace,wwf,etc...make the diference because to change you have to now first, hope (even false hope:)it's the last to died,it's one of human best qualitys, lets hope Emma:)
Thanks So much Mayra. This is one of my favorite birds. Can not get enough of these.
and Antonio, got it!! Yes there was a person who wants to change the name of the mountain. He has tried very hard and for ages. The name was originally given to this Mountain by the American Indians . They saw a volcano erupting and thought that it was the devil. Since then it has been called Mt Diablo. If you google the history and name of Mt Diablo you will find the details. The local people want to carry on the name.
This is all wild life protected area. People in Walnut creek buy hills and hills just to preserve and protect the mountain.Let us see how long it can beat human encroachment!!
uau, great photo Emma, beautiful little bird, mont diablo looks more like paradise than hell :)
