Betta pugnax
two broken dark stripes from eye to caudal peduncle. Dorsal side of body is dark brown and ventral side lighter brown.
Peninsular Malaysia. Found this guy sleeping at night in shallow clear fast flowing jungle stream at night and I was able to get macro shots of it with my underwater camera!
Betta: from ikan betah, the vernacular Malay for species of this genus. pugnax: from the Latin pugnax, meaning ‘combative’
