A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Sciurus vulgaris
I see huge numbers of these beautiful mammals squashed on the roads every year. It is a pet peeve of mine that well-intentioned 'nature lovers' leave food out for these adventurous animals in the most inappropriate places, leading to them risking their lives. For example, where this one was photographed I have seen 3 dead in the last 8 months. On the other side of a busy main road is a tiny garden with several squirrel feeders in it. For the convenience of having the squirrels come to their garden these people have endangered the lives of the very animal they are hoping to see/protect/help.

cute
lovely capture
Lovely!
Good reminder to watch how we feed the wild animals, that we are not bringing harm to them. I have twice moved dead animals to areas safer for the vultures to eat, but we always need to be alert. Thank You.
Cute :)
Did you take the photo in march? Here (in Denmark) the squirrels got ear tufts at this time of year...
Sweet little creatures - I love the rusty-red coat!
Yes, it annoys me how selfish some people are - we have several examples here - people feeding native birds right under the sign where it says not to and why and in the same national park, on three occasions, I saw people taking their dogs for a walk in the park where dogs are strictly prohibited. I don't think these people are animal lovers. They love themselves and want also to entertain their children at all cost !
Eye treat ...
great spotting
Beautiful! Very sad that so many people don't consider the repercussions of their actions.
Kristian, maybe you can talk to these people. If they are really squirrel lovers, they will understand,
Very Cute, ,
