Description:

Tree is of medium height. Leaves are flat and big. Flower is a perfect yellow ball with white spikes evenly distributed..looks like a closely cropped haircut! It used to be called Anthocephalus...perhaps because it looks like a head.

Habitat:

Roadside. This is a fairly common avenue tree.

Notes:

Very much a part of Indian myths and legends. Birds eat this flower. I have seen Coppersmith barbets (Megalaima haemacephala) make holes in the trunk and nest in it.
