This Demoiselle Crane lives at the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore, Maryland. They are migratory birds that breed across central Europe and Asia and winter mainly in north Africa, India, and Pakistan. They gather in large flocks to migrate and depart in early fall and return in spring. Demoiselle cranes form pairs for life. Their diet consists of grass seed, other plants, some insects, worms, lizards and other small vertebrates. They can live up to 25-65 years in captivity.
