I even have pictures, but had not yet identified what it was, also thought some sort of fungus, but seems not.

The Tropaeolum genera has some striking vines, I bet some can easily be cultivated in gardens.

The intensity of these colours are hard to believe when seen in person. These vines can grow quite large and can be seen from very far away.
Yes, Arctostaphylos sp. is much closer than my guess. Same family though.
These seem some sort of Gaultheria sp.

Me pasa lo mismo, voy en Septiembre de 2012... y en el verano del 2013 me mandé un viaje por el sur y tengo miles de fotos aún por procesar.
Que suerte pillar orquídeas, a mi me hacen el quite, en 5 años he visto 2 nativas en flor. Y sé que no son taaaan escasas.
