yes, it looks like a crane fly to me too but I'm not sure. Even if it is a crane fly, it is very hard to determine its species with that picture.

Sorry, I do not have any flashed photo, and the insect has flown away too. But it was all brown, with a white strip above eyes and it was about two to three inches long.

yes, they resemble more closely to eastern daisy fleabane, this should be it.
