Asters are nearly impossible to identify. All I can say is that this could belong to the calendula genus.
It looks like S. americanum. I'm still not sure though.
This is definitely acanthus mollis. Aka bears breech. It's not exactly invasive. However, it can be hard to remove, because it regenerates from the rhizomes left underground if you don't dig them all out.
