That is much prettier than the species of stink bug we have in the North East U.S. Ours are ugly little brown things that look similar to walking tree bark.
As I researched it some more, it looks like there is a Great-tailed grackle which is found in California, Texas and even down through South America. It was once thought to be the same species as the Boat-tailed Grackle.
looks like a female grackle. Possibly boat tailed grackle but I'm not sure. They are prominent in Florida but I noticed you found these in California.
cool shot! they are all over the place in Florida. They usually have a bit of an attitude but they are non-venemous.
after researching both varieties, I am leaning more towards house sparrow. although it seems like most sparrow species are very similar. I think this is a female. thanks for your suggestions!
it was climbing on a tree. this was in a coastal area of Puerto Rico.
