Yes the tip of the lip can be pale. The three ridges, darker sides of midlobe are characteristic. There's some debate about whether suavis is a species in itself, not a variety of tricolor. Britain's Royal Horticultural Society is supposed to be the final authority, they say suavis is a variety, not a species. Typical tricolor has yellow to gold background color, not white. THe listing on orchidspecies.com, above, is therefore incorrect in saying the species name is suavis, and also in listing it as found in Laos. It's only natural to Bali and Java, and nearby islands of Indonesia.
