might be a Silvery Checkerspot. I have copy of Don & Lillian Stokes butterfly guide, and their photo looks similar to your butterfly.

Thank you for ID on my bird photo. In reading the info for the Willet, it appears the photo I took is of a Willet in its spring breeding plumage, lots of speckled feathers. Otherwise this bird's feathers have a much different appearance.
