This was on Padre Island National Seashore, Texas. The release is a volunteer event where the volunteers keep seagulls at bay that would otherwise snatch up the hatchlings as breakfast.

a very vivid male Luna Moth. they are usually a celadon green, i'm guessing your camera settings are super-saturating the color.

a moth has feathery antenna, the male wide feathers and female narrow, while a butterfly has antenna that look like little stalks with bulbs on the end.
