To my knowledge this is a Golden Tortoise Beetle (refer to ID suggestion). Their backs are often unique and differ from beetle to beetle. Great find!

I believe it is a Checkered White (view ID suggestion), also known as a Southern Cabbage Butterfly. Great find!
