It's either a downy woodpecker or a hairy woodpecker. I can't tell in this picture. Hairy's are noticeably bigger than downy's.
Yes, I was one of the people who banded him. One of the aspects of our study last summer involved territory mapping 3 male henslow's for each of our grassland plots and putting out song meters.
