I was thinking she was a bufflehead but my books didn't show pictures that looked like her. Thanks for confirming it!
No, I think if she had been clipped by another vehicle she would have had even more severe injuries or died instantly.
Yes, we were trying to rescue her. She was in the middle of the highway after being taken down by a couple of massive ravens. She was bleeding freely from both nostrils, one eye was swollen and she was very much in shock. We were coming back from camping when we nearly ran her over on the highway. We turned around and picked her up and she sat in my lap for the next several hours as were driving home. Eventually I got the bleeding to stop and she seemed to perk up a bit after I got some water into her. We took her to our emergency vet when we got home but sadly she died overnight from head injuries. Very sad. :(
