Nature brings balance and meaning to my life, and to explore it is so empowering. The Australian bush makes me feel so alive :)

As I asked the question, I was thinking that there might still be enough moisture and salt in the air, seeing the spotting was on the beach. Rain would also provide moisture, which you seem to have an abundance of in the NW, but enough salt water from ocean spray would airborne to sustain the algae in a near-familiar environment. A hypothesis to start the ball rolling, yeah?
Lovely spotting, Sukanya. That is a handsome little bird. The beak is unusual for a finch species, looking somewhat narrower than most others. Still, it is a true finch. I've made a suggestion for you, so hopefully it helps to ID your spotting.
This is an interesting spotting. Does the algae survive for long out of its salt water environment? It looks to be thriving here. Cheers for sharing, Brian.
I think this could possibly be a Virginia opossum (Didelphis virginiana). Detailed, close-up images of the teeth are what we need here, and I can only make out so much. Regardless, it's a really interesting spotting. I wonder what happened to cause the demise of this animal? Here's an interesting video I found. It gives a good insight as to what is considered when identifying a specimen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uBqcHd9I...
I've passed this on to a dear friend of mine who knows cool, nerdy things about bones, and she's well-connected (no pun). She might be able to steer us in the right direction.
Wow, this is a spectacular find and an awesome 'first' spotting. There are a number of missions you can add your spottings to, but an ideal one for this is Identifying Animals Through Osteology - https://www.projectnoah.org/missions/847...
Shortly before I spotted my very first stinkhorn ever in my garden, I blamed my cat for her laziness. The smell is very distinctive. This is an amazing spotting, Machi. Great images too.
Great spotting, Lauren, and excellent images. Congrats on your SOTD.
