Mmm I am not sure as she was much browner than the photo shows (just a mobile phone shot) and her tummy was yellow. And she was huge with her 1,30m. But having seen photos of big grass snakes they also look like this. Well I will bend to the opinion of the crowd here. :-))

Hi Márton, Thanks for your suggestion. Do you think it is a grass snake? It was very long (1,30m) and she didn´t have the yellow sort of collar. I will check though. thanks, Saskia

Emma, thanks, kind yes but not brave, with snakes, but these snakes are harmless, not venenous otherwise I would not really dare to touch them. :-)

Last week I saw another one just outside my house, probably 70cm, sleeping under a big pile of wood, ... that I cleared up.

I was also thinking about a raptor, as it is this little 1 lane vineyard agricultural road that crosses through a small local nature reserve, but nomally cars that pass there go way to fast and may hit her too. Well anyway I also thought she did actually survive. A few days later I found another one, smaller, that was dead, and the people that had driven across her didnt even care to pick her up to the side of the road.
