I had a similar experience with Pronghorn Antelope on a Golf course in Rawlings, Nebraska. These are great pictures.

While Sparrow Hawk is a common name this bird is a falcon rather than a hawk

TamLar Great Blue Heron

This is definitely a Great Blue Heron. Both it's size and profile view indicate it is this common wading bird.

TamLar Blue Jay
Blue Jay commented on by TamLar Normal, Illinois, USA10 years ago

Thanks for the comments on the recent Blue Jays. Those pictures were shot with a Canon Rebel XS and Ef 75 - 300 mm Zoom lens. I try to document the birds that come to either of the feeders that are near the house. In this case the camera was in the house and about 8 - 10 feet from the Blue Jays. If I'm getting a lot of my favorite birds, I set the camera up on a tripod and prefocus on the feeder. Using this procedure all I have to do is turn the camera on and take some quick documenting shots, then I can work on improving my choices by taking several more shots. Agin, thanks for the comments.

Your hypothesis is correct, it is the red version of this attractive little owl. Nice photograph.

Great photograph of this insect. This species resembles the Box Elder bug, Boisea trivittata, in coloration. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boxelder_bu...

Beautiful snake and great shot. I've always enjoyed Garter snakes and this is one of the most beautiful species of this group of snakes.
