I believe you, Muckpuk! We had one that lived in the shower for months. He would eat any insects (gnats, fruit flies, mosquitoes) that gathered there for water when we left doors open!

Looks like Gardenia, or "Crepe Jasmine"...hard to tell though- do you have a closer photo of the leaves?

I think the green part is algae. See if you can identify it by comparing it to other images.
