Last week, I was told by the Army Corps of Engineers, which maintains Old Hickory Lake in middle Tennessee, that this was a very rare sighting, and maybe the first account, of an eastern Great Egret seen here.

I saw one of these (but didn't get a picture of it) in Drakes Creek Park in Hendersonville TN in early August 2012.
I never knew the name of it until now. Thank you for posting the picture and name.
Do you have any idea of what the name of a bird that looks like and is the same size as a G B H, except it is totally white ? I saw one but did not get a picture of it. Hopefully, I can next time I see it.
