Yeah, I guess so! I wondered for a minute if huhu have established a population in Oregon, but I can't find anything online that supports this wondering. :)

It looks super similar to a huhu beetle to me. But that can't be right.

There's a gaggle of these wintering at Waikuku Beach at the moment. I don't think any of them have head plumage as drastic as this guy though. Or yellow colouring as intense.
