ooo i was way off...bummer.
Recently spent some time on Catalina Island and we had a swell shark in the touch tank at the lab and it sort of resembled this...The coloration is keeping me from saying it's definitely a swell shark but the patterns of Swell sharks and leopard sharks can be sort of similar...
Btw I'm no shark expert, just a hunch.

I have a picture of a similar flower which corresponds to my suggestion. I may be wrong though
not positive but looks pretty close.
looks like genus cantharellus but I'm not sure on species.
its just the name...I'm not saying its actually from a dog.

Possibly not a mushroom, look up dog vomit fungus which is a slime mold.
quite the charismatic mega fauna you have there.
