The centre of the cap was slightly dimpled in some of the mature ones, but the caps were solid white.
I've always thought that this plant was a small variety of Veronica/Speedwell, as that's what the flowers look like. However, its leaves are fuzzier and more pointed, like chickweed. Does anyone know the real id?
These look like hosta flowers. What colours/patterns did their leaves have?
I was just reading some of the information about the bat hospital on the website. You do amazing work. I hope that I will have the opportunity to visit some day.
What a lovely little ceph!
It looks like a common, based on the reddish speckle pattern, but I'm not sure.
This is a type of jewelweed/ touch-me-not (The similar one that grows around here is orange).
I remember seeing a picture of one of these lantern flies when I was a very young child (Probably in National Geographic's World magazine or one of their book series), and being truly amazed that they were real. The seem like someting out of Alice in Wonderland.
This is one of the most striking butterflies out there. Does anyone know how to tell the difference between this one and D. neglecta? I thought that the patterns were different (less red on one of them), but I'm looking at pictures and they look the same.
The white eggs on this one's back mean that that its system has been completely colonized by the larvae of a brachonid parisitoid wasp. Not an enviable condition, to be sure.
