Concealer Moth Larva Case

Hemibela tyranna

Description:

A 20mm hollow twig stuck to a piece of bark of an Iron Bark eucalypt. The exposed end showed a nicely beveled rim.

Habitat:

Eucalyptus tree

Notes:

I was so excited to spot one of these myself - I hear they are everywhere. Larvae of Concealer Moths of the Hemibela sp tunnel out sticks to live in them while they feed on eucalyptus leaves. They change tubes as they grow bigger..
