Nesting Great Blue Heron

Ardea herodias

Description:

The largest of the herons, and one of the most common and widespread. Tall grey and blue wading bird with a long neck and long legs. A graceful bird with a wide wingspan. Usually they are seen hunting fish in the shallow marshlands, but this was a rare treat to see one nesting in a tall dead tree.

Habitat:

Circle B Bar Reserve, Lakeland, FL.
