A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Rhinomuraena quaesita
The Ribbon Eel is a type of moray eel...this one was spotted in Fiji, diving at about 50'. The second photo above is the juvenile version, which is darkly colored. These are very shy, and I had to patiently lay on the ocean floor for the better part of 30 minutes to await it coming out of the hole for a photo. The slightest move, and it disappeared. They grow up to 3', and I would estimate this on at possibly 2'.
They inhabit coral reefs in the Indo-Pacific. This spotting was in Fiji.

Congratulations on making the top 10! https://www.facebook.com/projectnoah
Great effort Jim, a fine result for your patience.
Thanks Maria and James. After many years, I learned to sit still and let them come to me...but it does not always work that way!
Your patience paid off, getting photos of an adult and a juvenile! Congratulations!
Fantastic James. New species for me. Never heard of it before. Thank you for the education and lovely images
