Blusher Mushroom

Amanita rubescens group

Description:

Huge Amanita with an olive green/brown cap that had tan warts. The cap was close to 10cm in diameter. The gills were white and free, and bruised pink. The stipe was tan, had an enlarged base, and bruised pink.

Habitat:

Growing on the ground in a deciduous forest.

Notes:

It's thought that there are probably several unnamed eastern North American species that are being referred to as Amanita rubescens. So, the exact species of this mushroom is unknown, but it is in the Amanita rubescens group. Amanita expert Rod Tulloss has documented several eastern North American versions of Amanita rubescens, which now temporarily share the provisional name of "Amanita amerirubescens."
