Painted Swift Spider

Supunna picta

Description:

This very small spider (~7mm long) was also extremely fast moving in rapid bursts then standing. Only when I checked the pics later I noticed it has 5 legs missing so getting around on 3.

Habitat:

Searching for tiny prey under night lights at the local school.

Notes:

Thanks to Chun for IDing it.
Family: CORINNIDAE
Obviously a very adaptable spider, it's also called Bug-mimicking Swift Spider, and Swift ground spider. Considerable variation exists including white spots instead of yellow, golden front 4 legs, or even a completely golden brown version.

Nice one Mark & well done on getting great shots of him. I recently saw this spider myself, my shots are just a bur, ha! They're so fast!

You are welcome, Mark.
This guy just needs a little repair and he will be back to being swift again!

Unbelievable Chun. You're amazing. I really thought this little guy would go unnamed. Thanks so much. I notice it's called 'swift' - hard to imagine how fast he was with all eight legs.

I mean that the reference page says that the spider is sometimes seen walking with 3 pairs of legs only but this spotting is much more extreme, with 3 legs only !
