A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Petrochelidon pyrrhonota
This is a pair of juvenile cliff swallows. The third picture shows cliff swallow nests that I found under a bridge close to where I spotted the birds. Most of the cliff swallows I saw were constantly flying around catching insects and was surprised to see these two just sitting on a branch. Upon closer inspection, realized they were juveniles waiting for their mother to come feed them.
Cliff Swallows have spread into a wide variety of habitats by nesting on buildings, bridges, and other human-made structures. Spotted near a campground (with small bridge close by) in Buffalo, Wyoming.
