Sarcodon spp.?
This amazing small mushroom has super shaggy teeth that hang from the cap. Still searching for a positive id, though believe to be in the Sarcodon genus. Cap; 2 inches, brownish black. Stipe, 1.5-2 inches, brownish black. Teeth hanging like shag carpet, brownish black to grey.
Most likely "soil substrate" growing in deciduous forest.
Spotted in Cumberland Gap NHP.

Nice find.. amazing looking species.
Nice fungus spotting! I wonder how many younger people today would not what shag carpets are?
Your spotting has been nominated for the Spotting of the Week. The winner will be chosen by the Project Noah Rangers based on a combination of factors including: uniqueness of the shot, status of the organism (for example, rare or endangered), quality of the information provided in the habitat and description sections. There is a subjective element, of course; the spotting with the highest number of Ranger votes is chosen. Congratulations on being nominated!
